About the Role
The Installation Assistant Technician supports the Installations Technician in setting up alarm, intercom, CCTV, and access control systems. Key duties include drilling, wiring, connecting detectors, powering up and testing systems, and handing over completed installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation of alarm and security equipment.
- Remove existing equipment from client premises.
- Run new cables, apply adhesives, drill holes, and mount detectors, panels, contacts, and lights.
- Identify and report any equipment or tool limitations to supervisors.
- Determine cabling requirements for each installation.
- Perform hand‑over of completed installations to clients.
- Clean vehicles and work sites after each job.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- At least one year of experience as a wireman.
- PSIRA registered (Grade C) – advantageous.
- Practical knowledge of electrical/electronic systems – advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
Preferred Background
- Experience installing alarm, intercom, CCTV, and access control systems.
- Capability to drill, connect detectors, and power‑up systems independently.
- Familiarity with walk‑testing alarm systems.
