Job Purpose
Your main responsibility will be to use ride‑on cut‑tire mowers and other specialised machines to trim grass across a variety of open spaces, parks, footpaths, and cemetery grounds. You will also carry out basic horticultural care to keep these areas clean and visually appealing.
Application Requirements
- Basic literacy in English
- Experience operating ride‑on mowers or similar equipment
- Good physical fitness and overall health to operate machinery
- Willingness to undergo a criminal record check (fingerprints taken by TMPD at own cost)
- Flexibility to work in shifts and in varying weather conditions

- Strong technical knowledge of mowing equipment
- Clear communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent eyesight and hand‑eye coordination
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
- Comfortable working outdoors, even in extreme weather or physically demanding environments
- Physical stamina to carry equipment and perform repetitive tasks
Primary Functions
- Cut grass in decorative parks, open spaces, road reserves and spruit areas
- Trim grass on traffic islands, shopping malls, squares, boulevards, sport fields, cemeteries and resorts
- Maintain grass at City of Tshwane facilities such as creches, old‑age homes, hostels, fire stations, etc.
- Operate ride‑on lawnmowers, brush cutters and other assigned equipment safely and efficiently
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993)
- Carry out general horticultural maintenance tasks as required
