About the Programme
The NECSA Radiation Protection Technician (RPT) Learnership offers a comprehensive blend of classroom theory and on‑the‑job training. Learners will gain hands‑on experience at NECSA facilities and develop the skills needed to protect against radiation hazards.
Eligibility
- Age 18‑35 years
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Sciences
- South African citizens only
- No prior participation in a NECSA learnership or internship program
- Open to students and recent graduates
Required Documents
- Personal and qualification details (form)
- Certified copy of RSA identity document
- Certified copy of Grade 12 certificate
- Proof of residence
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will take an aptitude assessment test as part of the selection.
Programme Outcomes
On completion, learners will be able to:
- Explain radiation and contamination hazards in the workplace
- Monitor workplace radiation and contamination levels
- Choose appropriate monitoring equipment based on type, purpose and location
- Implement radiation protection measures according to procedures
- Maintain productive workplace relationships
Career Opportunities
Graduates may work as Radiation Protection Officers in sectors such as mining, medical institutions, nuclear installations (e.g., Necsa, Koeberg) and construction.
