About the Role
Dis‑Chem Pharmacies is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Casual Merchandiser to support our shop at the Mall of Tembisa. In this role you will be responsible for ensuring that our store meets high merchandising standards, receives excellent customer service, and is always fully stocked. Your work will help create a pleasant shopping experience for our customers and support the overall success of the store.
Key Responsibilities
- Restock shelves promptly to maximise sales opportunities.
- Unpack delivered merchandise, pack it correctly, and put it in the right storage areas in a timely manner.
- Check that stock on shelves is not past the sell‑by date and rotate items on a regular FIFO basis.
- Report any low stock, out‑of‑stock items, damaged or expired stock to management.
- Assist with regular stock counts, file tallies, and general stock‑taking exercises.
- Follow Dis‑Chem’s layout guidelines and planograms when arranging displays.
- Flatten boxes after unpacking and send them to the designated area.
- Ensure front‑shop shelves and products are neat, fully stocked, correctly labeled and priced.
- Notify management of any price discrepancies.
- Keep up to date with current and new product information.
- Build and maintain attractive merchandising displays.
- Maintain daily cleanliness and upkeep of the store and displays, including the storeroom.
- Assist with loading and unloading deliveries.
- Mark items that do not have barcodes clearly.
- Support back‑shopping duties when needed.
- Help train new staff members.
- Offer friendly, helpful and courteous assistance to all customers.
- Respond to customer queries about out‑of‑stock items using our out‑of‑stock list.
- Resolve customer stock queries promptly.
- Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times.
- Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses.
- Adhere to all Dis‑Chem policies, staff procedures, SOPs, health & safety rules.
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential
- Grade 12 / Matric completed.
- Up to 6 months of retail experience.
- Basic computer skills – able to use MS Office.
- Willing and able to work retail hours (including weekends and evenings).
Advantageous
- At least 1 year of retail experience.
- Additional product or category knowledge.
- Bilingual ability.
- Knowledge of FMCG merchandising standards.
- Ability to read and analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stock taking.

- Bilingual speaker.
- Familiarity with merchandising standards and the FMCG industry.

- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviour of staff and customers.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Willing and able to work retail hours.
- Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes while following health and safety standards.
- Reliable transport and/or reside close to the store.
- South African citizen.
- Clear credit and criminal records.
