Role Overview
As an Artisan Assistant, you will support artisans in maintaining and troubleshooting mining equipment. This role involves assisting with scheduled and unplanned maintenance, communicating with operations teams, and ensuring safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist artisans with service and breakdown activities.
- Perform visual inspections of machines.
- Keep workshops, tools, and equipment clean.
- Follow workshop maps and procedures.
- Check wiring, hoses, and other critical components.
- Relay messages between operations teams.
- Provide feedback to artisans on machine conditions.
- Adhere to SMRT SHEQ management system and set objectives.
- Use correct tools for each task.
- Report hazardous conditions and incidents.
- Participate in accident or incident investigations.
- Collect and record technical readings.
- Support scheduled and unplanned maintenance and breakdowns.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent N3 Technical qualification.
- Computer literacy – able to use Excel for spreadsheets, presentations and charts.
- English proficiency.
- First Aid Level 1 is an advantage.
- Experience in a manufacturing or mining workshop.
- Familiarity with mechanised mining equipment.
- Physical and medical fitness to work in a workshop or underground environment.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to work effectively with others.
