About the role
RCL Foods requires a motivated and energy‑filled Mechanic Assistant to support the delivery fleet within our baking business unit. The role is based in Kokstad and reports directly to the Transport Manager. You will be responsible for performing scheduled maintenance, handling breakdowns, and supporting the lead mechanic to keep the fleet operating efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Help carry out routine maintenance and preventive servicing based on the maintenance schedule.
- Respond to and resolve after‑hours breakdowns on local delivery vehicles.
- Assist the lead mechanic in all workshop tasks, following instructions and using proper safety procedures.
- Keep the workshop clean and maintain housekeeping in line with HSEMS requirements.
- Dispose of waste in designated areas following company policies.
- Handle all mechanical and electronic gauges safely to prevent failures.
- Support the delivery team in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
- Follow all company procedures, controls, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain proper housekeeping both at the work site and in accommodation on a daily basis.
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric or equivalent education.
- Preferable diesel mechanic qualification.
- 2–3 years experience in a fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) workshop environment.
- Experience with FAW, Fuso, Hino, and Nissan trucks is an advantage.
