About the Job
We are looking for a reliable and professional driver to join our transport team at SANBS. The role involves transporting blood products and, where required, passengers. You must uphold the highest safety and service standards at all times.
Key Performance Areas
- Pre‑Trip Procedures
- Check your vehicle against the Vehicle Inspection Checklist before hand‑over to the Dispatch Controller.
- Report any irregularities to the appropriate supervisor before the vehicle leaves.
- Receive and sign the Trip Instruction Sheet.
- Wear your name tag at all times.
- Transport blood products carefully, securing them in the vehicle.
- Leave a copy of the delivery with the Dispatch Controller or Inventory Supervisor.
- Complete the Trip Sheet, recording odometer readings and log book details.
- Ensure fuel level is adequate; if not, obtain a fuel card and verify odometer reading on the fuel slip.
- Transportation of Goods
- Complete the Trip Sheet accurately.
- Follow delivery timelines and trip instructions; report any deviations.
- Drive in accordance with SANBS rules, regulations, and national road traffic laws.
- Pickup and deliver goods to destinations, confirming receipt by signed trip sheet and delivery note.
- Maintain a professional and friendly attitude toward all recipients.
- Promote SANBS’s positive image at all times.
- Submit the Trip Sheet and goods to the Dispatch Controller.
- Conduct closing vehicle inspections with the Dispatch Controller.
- Return keys and Trip Sheet to the Dispatch Controller.
- Do not transport unauthorized goods or deviate from routes without consent.
- Complete the log book after each trip.
- Transportation of Passengers (for general drivers only)
- Confirm passenger details with the Dispatch Controller and collect the Transport Request Form.
- Collect petty cash for parking fees before collecting international passengers at the terminal.
- Drive passengers to their destination safely.
- Display the SANBS Welcome Board for airport collections.
- Welcome passengers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist passengers unfamiliar with the venue, escorting them to reception if needed.
- Collect the Completed Customer Service Assessment Form from passengers.
- Never transport unauthorized passengers.
- Complete the log book after each scheduled trip.
- Administrative and Support Duties
- Perform ad hoc duties as required.
- Answer incoming transport department calls professionally and relay messages to the Dispatch Controller.
- Clean your vehicle regularly.
- Report any accident or incident within an hour to the Dispatch Controller, police, and obtain a case number.
- Technical Drivers may: prepare clinics in absence of a general assistant; unpack hampers from blood banks in absence of a general assistant.

Education & Eligibility
Minimum: Grade 9, C1 driver’s license and PDP.
Preferred: Grade 12 and completion of an Advanced Driver Course.
Experience & Knowledge
Minimum of 3 years of driving experience. Fluency in English is required.
