About the SEF Programme

The SEF (Student Experience for Futures) Programme grants young graduates valuable work experience within the NGO sector, supporting sustainable livelihoods and community development.

Role Overview

The Monitoring and Evaluation Intern will capture, clean, analyse and report programme data. You will support the M&E team in ensuring data quality and in the preparation of internal reports. The position offers first‑hand experience in M&E processes, data management and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately enter programme data into M&E systems (Excel and digital platforms).
  • Collect and submit data tools from implementing teams in a timely manner.
  • Digitise and organise hard‑copy data forms for secure archiving.
  • Assist with data cleaning to ensure accuracy, completeness and consistency.
  • Identify and flag data errors such as missing fields or incorrect demographics.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive programme data.
  • Support site‑level quality checks and basic data verification activities.
  • Compile and format internal M&E reports and documentation.
  • Participate in capacity‑building sessions and shadow M&E staff.
  • Provide general administrative support (filing, scanning, template updates).
  • Perform ad‑hoc tasks as needed to support programme objectives.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric / Grade 12) – required.
  • Recently completed a Diploma or Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of M&E concepts and data flow.
  • Basic familiarity with data analysis tools and languages (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI).
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced, high‑volume environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in English and one other South African language (knowledge of an African language is advantageous).
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for on‑site verifications.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible to work in South Africa and between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Currently unemployed and not engaged in any other internship or learnership.
  • Completed a post‑secondary qualification relevant to the role.
  • Available for the full duration of the internship programme.
