About the SEF Programme

The Secured Employment Fund (SEF) Programme gives young graduates practical experience in the NGO sector, supporting sustainable livelihoods and community development.

Role Overview

As a Finance Intern you will support NACOSA’s finance team by ensuring accurate data, preparing payment packs, maintaining records, and helping with general administrative tasks. You will help keep the organisation audit‑ready and compliant with donor and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review financial data in the Kwantu system for accuracy and compliance before processing payments.
  • Check invoices, timesheets and registers to meet audit and funder requirements.
  • Prepare and organise payment packs according to the monthly disbursement schedule.
  • Perform data entry, file documents, update internal trackers and maintain accurate records.
  • Ensure all financial activities align with organisational and donor financial policies.
  • Help keep audit‑ready documentation for internal and external reviews.
  • Participate in training sessions and carry out ad‑hoc finance tasks as requested by the Finance Officer.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Auditing or related field.
  • Previous internship or work experience in a finance/administrative role (advantageous).
  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting processes.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Understanding of financial policies, procedures and compliance principles.

Additional Eligibility

  • Eligible to work in South Africa, aged 18‑35.
  • No current employment, internship or learnership.
  • Completed a post‑secondary qualification relevant to the role.
  • Available for full internship duration.
  • Must not receive any of the following government benefits: Social Relief of Distress, Old Age Pension, Disability Grant or NSFAS Funding (Children’s Support Grant is allowed).
