About the Job

Ivanplats, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is developing a world‑class palladium‑rhodium‑nickel‑copper‑gold project near Mokopane. As part of this “mine of the future”, we are looking for a qualified Winding Engine Driver to operate our underground winding engines.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely hoist people, materials and ore up and down the shaft in compliance with the Minerals Act.
• Control the movement of men and material in conveyances or skips.
• Maintain daily records of winding engine conditions.
• Respond to signals and complete the driver’s logbook, noting stoppages and reasons.
• Advise the Banksman and Cage Attendant on workflow simplification during shifts.
• Verify load weights against lifting capacities to prevent overload.

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• Grade 12 / NQF 4 or equivalent.
• Trade Test Certificate – Section 13 or 26.
• DMR Winding Engine Drivers’ Certificate of Competency.
• Onsetters Certificate.
• AC (Alternating Current) Certificate.
• DC (Direct Current) Certificate.
• Full Certificate.
• Limited Scope Certificate.
• Valid Code EB (08) Driver’s Licence.
• Additional training in Shaft and Winder Legal Training is advantageous.

Experience

• 1–3 years’ experience as an underground Winding Engine Driver.
• Experience with double drum and friction winders; holding engineering‑related licenses is a plus.
