About the Role
Dis‑Chem Pharmacies is looking for a dedicated Casual Merchandiser to join the Springs Mall store. The role involves ensuring that all merchandising standards are met and maintaining excellent service for shoppers. The position is part of a strategic talent pool, giving shortlisted candidates an advantage for future opportunities within Dis‑Chem.
Key Responsibilities
- Restock shelves and displays to maximise sales opportunities.
- Arrange incoming stock in the storeroom, ensuring items are packed and stored correctly.
- Check shelf stock for sell‑by dates and remove any expired items.
- Maintain the full product range on shelves at all times.
- Apply FIFO (First‑In‑First‑Out) rotation regularly.
- Report low stock, out‑of‑stock items, damaged or expired stock to management.
- Assist with stock counts, stocktaking and general store maintenance.
- Follow Dis‑Chem’s operating rules, store layout, and planograms.
- Flatten boxes after unpacking and place them in the designated area.
- Keep product displays tidy, labelled correctly, and priced accurately.
- Report any price discrepancies to management.
- Stay updated on current and new products.
- Build, face, and maintain merchandising displays.
- Support loading and unloading of merchandise.
- Mark items without barcodes clearly.
- Assist with back‑shopping and staff training where needed.
- Provide friendly, helpful service and advice to all customers.
- Handle out‑of‑stock enquiries using the customer service list.
- Resolve customer stock queries efficiently.
- Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times.
- Minimise losses by handling merchandise carefully.
- Adhere to all Dis‑Chem policies, SOPs, health and safety rules, and regulations.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Up to 6 months’ retail experience (minimum).
- Proficient with MS Office and other basic computer skills.
- Must be willing and able to work retail hours (including weekends and nights).
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy boxes; dedication to health and safety.
- Reliable transport or residing close to the store.
- South African citizenship.
- Clear credit and criminal records.
Preferred (Advantageous)
- At least 1 year of retail experience.
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry.
- Bilingual communication skills.
- Product and category knowledge.
- Analytical ability to read ZMORE reports for stock ordering and taking.
- Experience reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviour involving staff or customers.
- Ability to train new staff competently.
