What the Job Involves

This role focuses on helping to verify and keep up-to-date the National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure’s (NDPWI) Immovable Asset Register (IAR). You will support these efforts by conducting physical checks on assets across the country, ensuring data is accurate, and assessing the condition of properties and other immovable assets. This is an important task to maintain reliable records of government-owned buildings, land, and related assets, which helps the department manage its resources effectively.

Basic Qualifications Needed

  • A Senior Certificate, Grade 12, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A valid driver’s license (essential for traveling to sites).
  • No previous work experience is required – full training will be given to get you started.

Skills and Qualities We Are Looking For

  • Strong skills in writing reports and communicating clearly with others.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to stay organized in a busy environment.
  • Basic knowledge of numbers and the ability to analyze simple data.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • A basic understanding of how asset management works.
  • The ability to visit sites for verification and work with maps or spatial information using tools like GIS.
  • Attention to detail, a sense of responsibility, and reliability in meeting deadlines.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

In this position, you will play a key part in ensuring the department’s asset records are correct and up-to-date. Here are the core tasks you will handle:

  • Help carry out physical checks on NDPWI assets in different parts of the country to confirm they exist and are in the right condition.
  • Provide everyday administrative help to Assistant Directors (ASD) and Deputy Directors (DD) as they manage verification activities.
  • Do desk-based planning and confirm ownership details for land parcels using official documents.
  • Check GIS spatial data to make sure it is accurate and matches real-world locations.
  • Review and verify property information in department databases and ERP systems to spot and fix any errors.
  • Review and approve asset verification details that come through the mobile app used for on-site checks.
  • Oversee the full process of physical verifications, including confirming the presence and state of buildings, land, and other immovable assets.
  • Keep the Immovable Asset Register (IAR) updated with precise and reliable data.
  • Perform searches in the deeds office to verify property titles and supporting paperwork.
  • Supply property details and support to other teams within the department when needed.
  • Go on-site to verify assets and evaluate their condition, noting any issues like damage or maintenance needs.

This work will involve a mix of office-based tasks and fieldwork, so you should be prepared for some travel within your assigned region or nationally as required.
