About the Role
Value Logistics is seeking a meticulous and proactive Inventory Controller to join our team. The primary purpose of this role is to execute and oversee all inventory control procedures within our operations, ensuring they align with both our company’s high standards and our clients’ specific requirements. You will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of all inventory records and reports, playing a crucial role in the efficiency and success of our supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
- Thoroughly understand, adhere to, and enforce all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to inventory management and control.
- Become proficient in using the various business systems integral to inventory management.
- Conduct detailed investigations into inventory discrepancies and queries, driving sustainable corrective actions to resolve issues.
- Raise and ensure the completion of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Non-Conformance Procedures (NCPs), and Investigation Orders (IOs) as needed.
- Maintain full accountability for all stock, minimizing claims and damages through vigilant control.
Storage & Warehouse Management
- Oversee the consolidation of pallets in replenishment areas to optimize space utilization.
- Perform regular spot checks on bin locations to verify and maintain bin accuracy.
- Ensure all products are handled correctly to preserve quality and prevent damage.
- Apply correct units of measure consistently across all inventory.
- Guarantee that physical stock levels, locations, and product details align perfectly with system records.
- Monitor and report on obsolete, expired, and non-moving stock.
Master Data & System Management
- Maintain and manage the product master data to ensure inventory records are precise and reliable.
- Verify that all product information is accurately uploaded into the system upon receipt of goods.
- Utilize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) effectively, applying its full functionality as required.
Counting & Auditing
- Perform regular book-to-book reconciliations as per required frequency, investigating and resolving all variances promptly.
- Execute daily cycle counts to uphold high stock accuracy and minimize losses.
- Conduct daily empty bin checks.
- Report on cycle count results and ensure all discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
- Manage all stock take preparations meticulously, ensuring inventory records are in order.
- Carry out stock takes effectively and accurately, meeting both Value Logistics and client standards.
- Report cycle count and stock take results to senior management and clients as needed.
- Maintain well-organized and easily accessible files for all inventory records (e.g., stock takes, cycle counts, investigation reports).
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly inventory reports to relevant management.
- Monitor, maintain, and report on key inventory performance indicators (KPIs).
- Investigate the root causes of any KPI failures.
- Analyze stock variances and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Analyze reports to identify trends, areas for improvement, and solutions to persistent problems.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- A diploma or degree in Logistics, Warehouse Management, or Business Management is highly advantageous.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the logistics or warehouse industry, with specific knowledge of inventory control.

- High proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and planning abilities.
- Keen attention to detail and a strong ability to identify discrepancies.
- Proficient data analytics and problem-solving skills.
