Job Description

Barloworld Equipment is seeking a skilled and dedicated Mechanic to provide general support for our range of Caterpillar Earthmoving Equipment. This role is based on various customer sites and is critical to ensuring the operational efficiency and reliability of heavy machinery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of mechanical tasks, including repairs, servicing, and maintenance. You will work directly on customer sites, requiring a high level of professionalism and a commitment to safety. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a qualified mechanic to apply their expertise in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out repairs, services, and maintenance on Caterpillar Earthmoving Equipment at customer sites.
• Remove and install components efficiently and safely, adhering to all safety protocols.
• Maintain a professional image and conduct when representing Barloworld Equipment on customer premises.
• Respond promptly and effectively to customer machine breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Compile accurate and detailed machine analysis reports, including Machine Inspection Reports (MIR’s).
• Manage own performance and workload effectively, demonstrating ownership and initiative.
• Be willing to work after hours as required to address urgent customer needs.
• Ensure all work practices comply with Caterpillar CC Audit requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• Trade Test qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Diesel Mechanic or Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic).
• Minimum of 6 years of post-apprenticeship or learnership experience as a Mechanic General.
• Proven experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving on Earthmoving Equipment.
• Strong technical knowledge and skills specific to embedded machines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to write clear and concise technical reports.
• Basic understanding of business and financial principles.
• Computer literacy, with knowledge of systems such as SIS, ET, and STW.
• In-depth knowledge and experience with Caterpillar machines and products.
