Job Description
Dis-Chem Randburg Square is looking for a dedicated and customer-focused Frontshop Assistant to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining high merchandising standards and providing excellent support at the point of sale, all while adhering to Dis-Chem’s established policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 (Matric or Senior Certificate)
- 0 – 6 months of retail work experience
Advantageous (Preferred):
- 1 year of retail work experience
- Certification in Retail Business Management
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all product ranges are fully stocked on shelves and presented neatly at all times.
- Check shelf stock to prevent the sale of expired merchandise.
- Restock merchandise as needed to maximize sales opportunities.
- Follow up on customer out-of-stock queries promptly using the customer service list.
- Ensure delivered stock or stock pulled from the storeroom is stored and packed correctly.
- Verify that merchandise displays, labels, and pricing are accurate; report any discrepancies to management.
- Keep the storeroom organized, neat, and tidy.
- Stay informed about new products to assist customers effectively.
- Help with restocking merchandise and supplies to support sales.
- Assist with back shopping when required.
- Handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses.
- Process customer purchases, including verifying and accepting payments via cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other methods.
- Handle merchandise exchanges and authorized returns.
- Process all loyalty cards, including those from accelerated partners.
- Place cash in the drop safe according to standard operating procedures.
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed by a Frontshop Leader or Retail Store Assistant.
- Maintain accurate cash flow at all times.
- Facilitate regular stock rotation and adhere to Dis-Chem’s stock control procedures.
- Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, and damaged or expired stock to management.
- Assist with stock file counting and general stocktaking.
- Identify and report damaged and expired stock immediately.
- Help with loading and off-loading stock when needed.
- Flatten boxes after unpacking and take them to the designated area.
- Build professional relationships with customers, providing friendly, helpful, and courteous service.
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
- Adhere to the company’s customer turnover per hour benchmark.
- Assist in training new and current team members.
- Ensure all outgoing stock, items, and scripts are scanned and paid for.
- Keep daily takings (cash, cheques, vouchers, card slips, etc.) secure in the till drawer until placed in the drop safe.
- Report suspicious behavior from both staff and customers to management.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in line with Dis-Chem requirements.
- Adhere to all Dis-Chem Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and Health and Safety regulations.
- Follow the Dis-Chem uniform and personal appearance policy.
Required Competencies
Essential:
- Knowledge of retail operations and administration.
- Problem-solving skills and knowing when to escalate issues.
- Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Effective verbal communication.
- Ability to address customer questions promptly.
- Understanding of and adherence to procedures.
- Personal responsibility for work quality and timeliness with minimal oversight.
Advantageous:
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and numerical skills.
- Experience with SAP systems.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to work retail hours.
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Clear criminal record (MIE) and credit rating.
- Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport.
