Purpose of the Job

The main goal of this role is to take part in and successfully complete the Learnership programme in the field of Chemical Plant Operations. This programme will help you gain practical skills and knowledge to start a career in the chemical industry.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

As a Learnership participant, you will learn and apply important skills to ensure safe and efficient operations in a chemical plant environment. Your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Able to apply emergency procedures quickly and correctly to handle any unexpected situations.
  • Read, interpret, and implement task risk assessments to identify potential dangers before starting work.
  • Conduct hazard identification and complete task risk assessments to promote a safe workplace.
  • Participate in daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments, share updates, and plan the day’s activities.
  • Support the business goals and vision by meeting all deadlines and contributing to team efforts.
  • Provide clear and regular feedback to your supervisor on work progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Take part in root cause analyses for incidents or issues, and share your insights with the investigation team to help prevent future problems.
  • Participate in risk assessments as required by law and company standards to continuously improve safety measures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices in your work area and follow proper waste disposal procedures to keep the environment clean and compliant.

Throughout the programme, you will work under supervision to build hands-on experience while learning about plant operations, safety protocols, and teamwork in a real-world setting.

Qualification Requirements

To be eligible for this Learnership, you need:

A combined N3 Certificate or equivalent qualification at the level of Grade 12, which must include the following subjects:

  • A completed National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent with passes in:
  • Technical Mathematics or Mathematics (SG/HG level)
  • English or Business English (SG/HG level)
  • Technical/Physical Science (SG/HG level)
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science

These qualifications ensure you have the foundational knowledge needed to succeed in the programme and handle technical aspects of chemical plant operations.

Experience Requirements

Minimum Experience: 0 years

This Learnership is designed for entry-level candidates who are eager to learn and start their careers. No prior work experience is required, but a willingness to learn and grow is essential.
