Role Purpose

Ensure precision in inventory management for a high-volume retail distribution center moving 15,000+ SKUs daily. This operational role is critical for maintaining stock integrity, enabling efficient order fulfillment, and supporting seamless retail supply chain operations.

Detailed Key Responsibilities

1. Goods Receiving & Inspection

• Inbound Logistics:

  • Unload 25+ daily trucks using dock levellers and pallet jacks

  • Inspect incoming goods against purchase orders (3-way matching: PO/delivery note/physical goods)

  • Document damages/shortages via discrepancy reports (DR01 forms)

  • Apply barcode labels per GS1 standards

• System Processing:

  • Record receipts in WMS (Warehouse Management System) within 2 hours of arrival

  • Assign stock to quarantine area for quality control holds

2. Storage & Inventory Organisation

• Warehouse Optimisation:

  • Implement FIFO (First-In-First-Out) system for perishable goods

  • Organise pallet racking (6-tier selective racks) with 1.2m aisle clearance

  • Maintain bin location accuracy in WMS

• Stock Preservation:

  • Monitor temperature zones (ambient/chilled/frozen)

  • Conduct weekly pest control checks

3. Order Preparation & Dispatch

• Picking Operations:

  • Process 200+ pick tickets daily using voice-picking/scanning technology

  • Achieve 99.8% pick accuracy rate

• Packing & Labelling:

  • Pack fragile items with bubble wrap/dunnage

  • Generate compliant shipping labels (retailer-specific formats)

  • Secure pallets with stretch wrap (6-8 rotations)

• Loading Coordination:

  • Prepare dispatch documentation (waybills, manifests)

  • Coordinate with transport schedulers for on-time loading

4. Inventory Control

• Cycle Counting:

  • Conduct weekly counts of 5% total stock (ABC analysis)

  • Investigate variances >2%

• Stock Audits:

  • Support quarterly wall-to-wall stocktakes

  • Reconcile system vs. physical inventory

5. Safety & Compliance

• Housekeeping:

  • Maintain 5S standards (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardise, Sustain)

  • Clear fire exits and assembly points

• Equipment Safety:

  • Report forklift faults via DEFECT book

  • Enforce pedestrian/vehicle segregation

Essential Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

• Education: Grade 12 Certificate (Maths Literacy minimum)

• Licensing:

  • Valid forklift license (counterbalance + reach truck – expired certifications not accepted)

  • Working at Heights certification (advantageous)

• Experience:

  • 2+ years in retail distribution/warehousing

  • WMS proficiency (SAP EWM, Manhattan, or similar)

Physical & Technical Competencies

• Strength Requirements:

  • Lift 25kg cartons at shoulder height

  • Push 300kg cage pallets

• Technical Skills:

  • Intermediate Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP)

  • Handheld RF scanner operation

  • Basic mechanical knowledge (pallet jack maintenance)
