A vacancy exists for a Head of Department: Business Services at our client’s office in Claremont.
About the Position
As the Head of Department: Business Services, you will manage the full financial function of the business, including corporate governance and statutory compliance for three entities. The role requires providing strategic financial support to the CEO, Board members, and HODs to ensure best practices are executed. You will develop and implement annual financial and retail plans and oversee accurate budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and asset management. Additional responsibilities include managing internal and external audits, maintaining internal financial controls, leading a team, and overseeing operational and HR activities. You will also manage risk and provide HR business partner advisory services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full financial function of the business, including corporate governance and statutory compliance for three entities.
- Provide strategic financial support to the CEO, Board members, and HODs to ensure best practices are executed.
- Develop and implement annual financial and retail plans.
- Oversee accurate planning and forecasting of budgets, cash flow, and forecasts for the organization and retail stores.
- Manage asset register tasks and ensure excellent asset management.
- Achieve internal and external audit targets and other requirements.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process and present the budget to stakeholders.
- Develop, manage, and improve internal financial operating controls and procedures.
- Lead and manage team members, facilitating people development and alignment with organizational values.
- Oversee all operational and HR activities of the organization.
- Manage risk and maintain resource effectiveness.
- Provide HR business partner advisory services.
- Perform other duties to support team goals and deliverables.
Requirements
- BCom Honours in Accounting (or equivalent financial qualification) with a formal qualification in HR Management or Industrial Psychology.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a Financial Management position, including proven expertise in budgeting and cash flow management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of retail management is advantageous, along with exposure to finances and fundraising in non-profit organizations (NPOs).
- Proven team leadership and project management experience.
- Advanced computer literacy, including MS Office and Sage Evolution.
- Unendorsed manual driver’s license.
- Highly organized, professional, and results-driven with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizing skills, with a focus on meeting deadlines and deliverables.
