About the Position
CSIR, a leading South African research organisation, is looking for an enthusiastic Junior Project Support officer to assist with a climate‑change response project. The role is based in Pretoria and focuses on the Technical write‑up of climate change response strategies and implementation plans for provinces and local municipalities under a GIZ‑CSIR contract. You will work within the Climate Services Research Group of the Smart Places Cluster.
About the Climate Services Research Group
The group delivers targeted climate‑change research to support mitigation and adaptation for local governments and industry. Key services include:
- Crop, species distribution and agro‑hydrological modelling
- Greenhouse‑gas (GHG) inventory and low‑carbon emission strategies
- Resource constraint trade‑offs and policy analysis
- Reporting on national commitments to the UNFCCC
- Decision support tools such as vulnerability atlases, GIS, web mapping and remote‑sensing products
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate project activities, reporting and delivery for the climate‑change response project.
- Facilitate communication between CSIR, the Department for Science, Technology, Research and Innovation (DFFE), GIZ, municipalities and other stakeholders. Attend meetings and calls to keep milestones on track.
- Plan and organise virtual and in‑person events, including stakeholder consultation workshops and partner meetings. Compile follow‑up documents.
- Act as liaison with the DFFE team, gathering data and information from municipalities participating in the project.
- Assist in preparing project reports, technical documents and internal updates to support funder reporting requirements.
Who We’re Looking For
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental studies or a related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Strong research, analytical, reporting and concise writing skills.
• Experience with local government operations is an advantage.
• Experience organising virtual or in‑person events and workshops.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to create content for diverse audiences.
• Highly motivated, positive, proactive, with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Meticulous, detail‑oriented, delivers quality work and acts with honesty and accountability.
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team, and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
• Creative, eager to contribute new ideas and help shape project direction.
